Jones Court System & Jurisdictions

Jones County has two judicial districts — with centers in Laurel and Ellisville. This affects where cases are filed and where to search for relevant records.

  • Misdemeanors (minor criminal offenses)
  • Civil cases with claims up to $3,500
  • Traffic violations

Municipal Courts

The municipal courts of Laurel and Ellisville handle violations of city ordinances and traffic fines within their respective cities.

If you are interested in information about inmates or parolees, the Jones County Sheriff's Office publishes relevant data on its website.

Certified vs. Non-Certified Copies

A certified copy has the clerk's seal and legal force — it is required for submission to other courts, government agencies, or employers. A non-certified copy is cheaper and suitable for review.

To request, you will need:

  • The full name of the party in the case
  • The case number (if known)
